Regulatory Compliance Director

As Regulatory Compliance Director, you’ll lead the U.S. First Line of Defense (FLOD) compliance program, making sure front-line activities—from sales and marketing to claims, operations, and product development—meet all federal and state requirements. You’ll embed compliance into daily operations, guide business leaders on emerging risks (including AI), and partner with Legal, Compliance, and Risk to strengthen the regulatory framework. You’ll also manage regulatory reviews, reports, and examinations, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
This is a strategic, hands-on program director role with broad influence across the business, but no direct reports.
Location: Richmond, VA
Way of working: This position follows an in-office schedule at our office in Richmond, VA
Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the VP Deputy General Counsel, U.S.
What you will do
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Integrate Compliance Across Front-Line Functions: Lead the integration of regulatory compliance into front-line operations to strengthen adherence to U.S. regulatory requirements.
- Regulatory Engagement & Reporting: Oversee and respond to regulatory inquiries, including ongoing reporting, applications, data and document submissions, and formal examinations.
- Product & Marketing Compliance Advisory: Evaluate regulatory implications of new and existing products, services, and marketing initiatives in coordination with the Second Line of Defense
- Risk Assessment & Remediation Leadership: Conduct regulatory risk assessments, compliance testing, and remediation planning in collaboration with Corporate Compliance and Risk teams.
- Training & Culture Building: Design and deliver training programs to foster regulatory awareness and promote ethical conduct throughout the organization.
What you will bring
- University degree in law, business, Risk Management, or related field OR equivalent education, training and relevant experience
- Advanced certifications are an asset
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in insurance regulatory compliance
- At least 3 years’ experience in a functional leadership or program leadership role.
- Strong understanding of jurisdictional regulatory environments, including for advertising, marketing, distribution, licensing and AI requirements and considerations.
- Experience managing regulatory inquiries, complaints, remediation projects, and compliance testing, including demonstrated ability to interact successfully with regulators.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize regulatory changes into actionable business insights.
- Proficiency with compliance systems, Microsoft Office suite, and change management tools.
- Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and independent judgment.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive results through influence and collaboration.
