Description:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving growth across both partnership and direct business channels for Allianz Insurance Singapore's general insurance portfolio. This role plays a critical part in expanding AIS's distribution footprint in Singapore by cultivating strategic partnerships, managing intermediary relationships, and developing direct-to-customer business opportunities. The role reports to the Chief Sales Officer/ Head of Sales.
Key Responsibilities:
Partnership & Channel Development
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new partnerships and direct customers
- Develop and manage strategic partnership agreements to expand AIS's general insurance distribution reach in Singapore
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key channel partners
- Collaborate with partners to design co-branded insurance solutions and joint go-to-market strategies
- Monitor partner performance, conduct regular business reviews, and implement action plans to drive growth
Direct Business Development
- Develop and execute strategies to grow AIS's direct business portfolio across retail, SME, and mid-corporate segments
- Identify new business opportunities and market segments for general insurance products including but not limited to Motor, Property, Engineering, Casualty, Marine Cargo, Work Injury Compensation, and Personal Accident lines
- Lead end-to-end sales processes from prospecting and proposal development through to deal closure and onboarding
- Build a robust pipeline of direct business opportunities through proactive market engagement
Strategy & Market Intelligence
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and threats in Singapore's general insurance landscape
- Translate market insights into actionable business development strategies aligned with AIS's growth objectives
- Contribute to the development of new product propositions and distribution models to meet evolving customer and partner needs
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Work closely with Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Marketing, and Compliance teams to ensure seamless partner and customer experience
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings, presentations, and proposal evaluation sessions
- Represent AIS at industry events, conferences, and networking forums to enhance brand visibility and generate leads
- Provide regular reporting on business development activities, pipeline status, and revenue performance to senior management
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure all partnership agreements and business development activities comply with MAS regulations and Group policies
- Maintain proper documentation and governance for all distribution agreements and partner onboarding processes
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in business development, distribution management, or sales within the general insurance industry in Singapore
- Proven track record of managing broker, agent, and/or partnership relationships in the Singapore market
- Demonstrated experience in developing both intermediated and direct business channels
- Strong knowledge of Singapore's general insurance market, products, and regulatory environment
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Insurance, Marketing, or a related field
- Certification in Basic Insurance Concepts and Principles (BCP), Personal General Insurance (PGI) , Commercial General Insurance (ComGl) and Health Insurance (HI) with Singapore College of Insurance is mandatory.

- Strong negotiation, influencing, and relationship management skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences including partners, clients, and senior management
- Commercially astute with strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities
- Results-oriented with a proven ability to meet and exceed business targets
- Strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
- Knowledge of MAS regulatory requirements for general insurance distribution
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a "can-do" attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment
- AI-Skills e.g. ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot an advantage.
