Join Allianz Insurance Singapore as our Senior Legal Counsel, where you will serve as the principal legal advisor to the business on a wide range of insurance, corporate and commercial matters. This role is intended for an experienced legal professional who can act as a strategic partner to management, providing expert legal guidance, supporting governance and regulatory obligations, and helping the business navigate complex legal and commercial challenges.
You will work collaboratively across the organization to identify and mitigate legal risks, oversee contentious matters, manage external counsel, and support strategic business initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and Allianz Group standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a trusted legal advisor and business partner to senior management and stakeholders, providing pragmatic legal advice on insurance, corporate, commercial, and operational matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a broad range of commercial contracts, legal documentation and business arrangements, ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulatory requirements and Allianz Group standards.
- Provide guidance on Singapore insurance regulations, MAS requirements, corporate governance obligations, data privacy requirements, and other regulatory developments impacting the business.
- Support strategic business initiatives, product development and operational projects by identifying legal risks and providing practical, commercially sound solutions.
- Lead and manage legal disputes, litigation, regulatory inquiries and other contentious matters, including the appointment and oversight of external counsel where required.
- Support the development, implementation and enhancement of legal, governance and regulatory frameworks, policies, procedures and controls to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal standards.
- Advise on corporate governance matters, including Board, Committee and regulatory reporting requirements where applicable.
- Drive continuous improvement within the legal function, including legal processes, templates, knowledge management and operational efficiencies.
- Deliver legal and regulatory guidance, training and awareness initiatives to stakeholders across the organisation.
- Stay abreast of legal, regulatory and market developments to proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities for the business.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably within the insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries.
- Strong knowledge of Singapore legal and regulatory frameworks, including insurance regulations, MAS requirements, corporate law, and data protection regulations. Experience within the general insurance or retail insurance industry will be highly advantageous.
- Experience providing legal advice on corporate, commercial, contractual, regulatory, and operational matters.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements and legal documentation.
- Exposure to dispute resolution, litigation management, regulatory inquiries, and management of external counsel.
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and provide practical, commercially focused advice to business stakeholders and senior management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across various functions, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Resourceful, adaptable, and meticulous with sound professional judgement and integrity.
- AI-Skills e.g. ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot an advantage.
